5 Astronomy Books (gnv64)

Torrent: 5 Astronomy Books (gnv64)
Description:

This torrent contains 5 astronomy books that I have downloaded from various sources:

1. "A Treatise on Astronomy"
By John Frederick William Herschel
Cambridge University Press | 2009 | ISBN: 1108005543 | 444 pages | PDF | 10 mb

Astronomer and philosopher Sir John Herschel (1792-1871), the son of William and the nephew of Caroline, published his 1833 Treatise on Astronomy in the 'Cabinet Cyclopaedia' series of which the first volume had been his enormously successful Preliminary Discourse on the Study of Natural Philosophy. He is regarded as the founder of the philosophy of science, and made contributions in many fields including mathematics, the newly discovered process of photography, and the botany of southern Africa, which he studied while making astronomical observations of the southern hemisphere, and where he was visited by Darwin and Fitzroy on the Beagle voyage. It was however as the natural successor to his father's astronomical studies that he is best remembered, and this book, which is written for the interested lay person, places strong emphasis on the importance of accurate observation and on avoiding preconceptions or hypotheses not based on such observation.

]2. "Eye Wonder: Space"

The combination of breathtaking visuals and informative, accurate text will hook even those children who usually avoid books.

3. "The Big Bang : What It Is, Where It Came From and Why It Works"
By Karen fox
Wiley | 2002-03-01 | ISBN: 0471394521 | 224 pages | PDF | 1,3 MB

This compelling book describes how the Big Bang theory arose, how it has evolved, and why it is the best theory so far to explain the current state of the universe. In addition to understanding the birth of the cosmos, readers will learn how the theory stands up to challenges and what it fails to explain. Karen Fox provides clear answers to some of the hardest questions including: Why was the Big Bang theory accepted to begin with? Will the Big Bang theory last into the next century or even the next decade? Is the theory at odds with new scientific findings? One of the most well-known theories in modern science, the Big Bang is the most accurate model yet devised in humanity's tireless serach for the ultimate moment of creation. The Big Bang Theory is the first title in a planned series on the major theories of modern science.

4. "The Mysterious Universe"
By Sir James Hopwood Jeans
Cambridge University Press | 2009 | ISBN: 1108005667 | 160 pages | PDF | 2,7 mb

Originating from the Rede Lecture delivered at the University of Cambridge in November 1930, this book is based upon the conviction that the teachings and findings of astronomy and physical science are destined to produce an immense change on our outlook on the universe as a whole, and on views about the significance of human life. The author contends that the questions at issue are ultimately one for philosophical discussion, but that before philosophers can speak, science should present ascertained facts and provisional hypotheses. The book is therefore written with these thoughts in mind while broadly presenting the fundamental physical ideas and findings relevant for a wider philosophical inquiry.

5. "The Road to Galaxy Formation"
By W. C. Keel
Springer | 2010 | ISBN: 3540725342, 3642091571 | 284 pages | PDF | 15,7 mb

The formation of galaxies is one of the greatest puzzles in astronomy, the solution is shrouded in the depths of space and time, but has profound implications for the universe we observe today. This book discusses the beginnings of the process from cosmological observations and calculations. It examines the different theories of galaxy formation and shows where each theory either succeeds or fails in explaining what we actually observe. In addition, the book looks ahead to what we may expect to uncover about the epoch of galaxy formation from the new and upcoming generations of telescopes and technology.
