A Flame in Byzantium, Atta Olivia Clemens (01) by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro EPUB
Olivia Clemens, a vampire is caught up in the complex political plots of sixth century Byzantium
Atta Olivia Clemens had received St. Germain's darkest gift. Would his love save her from the True Death?
"A skillful blend of history and fiction, given added spice by the fact that its heroine happens to be a 500-year-old vampire".--Library Journal.
With this wonderful Dark Fantasy novel, Yarbro introduces us to Olivia, a Roman noblewoman, who becomes the lover of a vampire in the time of Nero.
A few hundred years later, Olivia, forced to leave Rome and take refuge in Constantinople, is made the object of suspicion and mistrust and, when her protector, General Belisarius, loses the favor of Emperor Justinian, she finds herself at the mercy of the implacable Court Censor.
Although the fact that Olivia is a vampire creates a notable fantastic-horror value throughout the volume, this book has a notable impact and considerable strength in outlining the portrait of an intelligent and cosmopolitan woman involved in a perverse and paranoid of political intrigue and religious persecution.
The connection between the fantastic and the historical elements is very interesting, and Justinian's order to burn the famous Library of Alexandria takes on particular importance.
