Aaron Neville (born January 24, 1941, New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American soul and R&B singer and musician. He has had four top-20 hits in the United States (including three that went to number one on Billboard's adult contemporary chart and one that went to number one on the R&B chart) along with four platinum-certified albums. He has also recorded with his brothers Art, Charles and Cyril as The Neville Brothers, and shared the stage with rock legends such as Gregg Allman and Bonnnie Raitt. Of mixed African American and Native American heritage, his music also features Cajun and Creole influences.
A mountain of a man quiet and soft spoken, with one of the most unique voices in music today, Aaron Neville sings with a raw and haunting beauty.
"Tell It Like It Is" is a song written by George Davis and Lee Diamond. Aaron Neville was the first to record it, releasing the song as a single in 1966. It was issued at the end of the year on the Par-Lo label and became a hit, peaking at number two on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and at number one on the U.S. R&B chart in early 1967. "Tell It Like It Is" topped Billboard's R&B chart for five weeks in 1967. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. Later that year was released on Neville’s debut LP album with the hit song as title.
