Description:

Candyman (1992), directed by Bernard Rose, Arrow 4k remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including 7.1 remaster, original theatrical stereo, four commentary tracks, and subtitles in fifteen languages.

IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103919/

Note : Arrow's 4k remaster gives me an opportunity to redo this personal favorite, and it still holds up as a haunting, original, and often very scary film more than thirty years later. It's of course based on a short story by the great Clive Barker, and the uncompromising horror definitely comes from the original text, while the adaptation to race and class relations in the US is part of writer/director Bernard Rose's adaptation. The cast is rock solid, Virginia Madsen is determined but fragile, Tony Todd is bombastic and terrifying, Xander Berkeley is suitably slimy, and Vanessa E. Williams and Kasi Lemmons round out the main cast. There's also a small appearance by Ted Raimi. If you haven't seen this, get it now, it's one of the few films I would recommend to almost any horror fan with no caveats.

Helen Lyle is a grad student at the University of Chicago who's researching urban legends, and comes across that of the Candyman, a spirit who kills anyone who speaks his name five times in front of a mirror. A number of recent murders, mostly in the Cabrini-Green housing projects, are attributed to the Candyman. With her friend Bernadette, she visits the projects, and they work together on a thesis about how the residents use the legend of the Candyman as a coping mechanism to deal with social hardship. They also run into Anne-Marie, a single mother raising her infant son Anthony. An expert on urban legends tells Helen the Candyman is based on the story of an African-American painter who had a relationship with a white woman, and was lynched for it, his right hand cut off and his body covered in honey to make bees sting him to death before his body was burned where the projects now stand. After a run-in with local criminals, Helen starts seeing the Candyman, and when she wakes up in Anne-Marie's apartment covered in blood, with Anne-Marie's rottweiler dismembered and her son missing, she starts doubting her own sanity.

This remaster is pretty big upgrade over the previously available copies, with deep blacks that still preserve detail, good color, and a tight, subtle grain. 7.1 remaster sounds great, original stereo too, and there are more commentary tracks than you'd ever need, featuring the director, cast including Tony Todd, Virginia Madsen and more, and of course Clive Barker himself.

HeVK torrents always have lots of keywords. Try searching for “hevk folk horror” for more legends and folklore come to horrifying life, “hevk supernatural” for more spirits and spooks, or “hevk 90s” for more from the decade when race and class consciousness really started to creep into horror (and film in general).
