Channel Patrol S01 complete (720p HD, soft Eng. subs)

E01
The RNLI team from Newhaven, one of the busiest stations on the channel, rush to answer a mayday call from a teenager on a stranded yacht. We follow trawler skipper Mike Young as he struggles with strict fishing regulations and mechanical breakdowns while trying to earn a living from the channel's waters. Commercial fishing is statistically one of the most dangerous jobs in the UK, with fishermen 16 times more likely to be killed than those working in construction. And another job that's not without its dangers - we're with the Royal Navy's underwater bomb squad, the Fleet Diving Squadron, who are called out to blow up a hazard in the Solent.

E02
The RNLI team from Newhaven rush to the aid of a casualty having a suspected heart attack on board a charter fishing boat out at sea. Every minute is critical to reach him within the 'golden hour'. The team must then quickly assess whether he needs emergency helicopter evacuation. We also follow solo swimmer Nick Young as he battles tides and massive freighters in his attempt to swim to France. It's the ultimate open-water challenge - more people have climbed Everest than have successfully swum the channel. Nick's motivation is a cause close to his heart - he's hoping to raise money to help his 12-year-old niece, Bel, who was paralysed four years before after falling from a climbing frame. And a team of volunteers rush to rescue another of the channel's inhabitants - a baby seal washed up on the beach.

E03
We follow the crew and pilots on a mammoth cargo freighter as it makes its way through the channel's hazards to Southampton in thick fog. Ninety-five per cent of everything we buy comes to us via sea and the cargo ships that bring us everything from TVs to fresh fruit and veg are getting ever larger. At 368 metres long, the APL Merlion is 62 metres bigger than London's tallest building, the Shard. Getting this mammoth beast safely into port in poor visibility is no mean feat. It's one of the many challenges faced on a daily basis by the team in Vessel Traffic Services in Southampton, who help to park up huge cruise liners as well as massive freighters like this. One of the UK's busiest ports, Southampton handles almost 40 million tonnes of freight and also has 1.7 million cruise passengers passing through it every year. We also follow a team of swimmers who are hoping to raise money for a children's intensive care unit by swimming to France and back again. But the thick fog in the Channel could put their whole attempt in jeopardy.

E04
The RNLI fight to save an historic structure. The Newhaven RNLI crew was one of many agencies called out when Eastbourne pier caught fire on 30 July 2014. Using footage captured on their helmet camera as well as live news from the day, we follow the key role they played in helping to save the historic pier from total destruction. We're also on board the Royal Navy's HMS Tyne, part of the channel's fisheries protection squadron, who patrol the waters ensuring commercial fishermen follow regulations to protect fishing stocks. A young naval officer on board is hoping to complete his qualification as a marine enforcement officer - but Hurricane Bertha is approaching the channel. For many of us the channel means one thing - taking the car on a cross-channel ferry for a trip to France or the rest of Europe. In fact over 15 million of us cross its waters by ferry each year in 3.3 million cars. We follow the crew of DFDS Seaways ferry the Delft at the height of the summer holidays as they load and unload up to 1,000 passengers a time on a tight schedule. And we're with two old rivals as they battle it out in the channel's most famous regatta, Cowes Week.

E05
We follow the crew of navy destroyer the HMS Duncan as they're put to the test to prove they're ready for battle. The channel plays an important role for the Royal Navy's fleet of 90 ships and submarines by offering them a base, but it's also the training ground where ships and crews can be prepared for combat. The HMS Duncan is one of the most sophisticated ships in the navy's fleet, able to detect a tennis ball moving at mach 3 from several hundred miles away. But can her crew make use of all this hi-tech kit when they come under fire from hawk jets in a simulated battle? We're with a team from Southampton harbour patrol as they work to keep the busy port running smoothly when hundreds of luxury yachts descend on it for the 45th annual boat show. And a couple of rookie sailors are learning the ropes in the world's most famous sailing regatta, Cowes Week.

E06
In this episode, lighthouse engineers battle a hurricane. The Corporation of Trinity House is the organisation responsible for managing and maintaining over 500 lighthouses and buoys that mark out the shipping lanes and warn ships away from the channel's hazards. The team on Trinity House's flagship, the Galatea, are called out to a damaged light vessel which is marking a hazardous sandbank in the Dover Straits. But their mission to tow it into harbour for repair becomes increasingly perilous when Hurricane Bertha closes in on the channel. In Southampton's busy docks, 30 cranes work day and night to unload the 100 million tonnes of freight that come into the UK every year. But they are 400 feet tall and learning to drive them is not an easy job, as trainee dock worker Ryan soon finds out. And off the coast of Weymouth, two rival skippers go head to head in an epic big fish competition. Over three days every year, up to a hundred anglers compete to catch one of the channel's largest native fish - the mighty conger eel. With 50 years maritime experience, Paul Whittle has been top skipper five times - but can rival Adrian Brown steal his crown?

E07
A rookie sailor takes part in the Tall Ships Regatta - a stunning spectacle where 46 traditionally rigged sailing vessels race 200 miles from Falmouth to the Isle of Wight. For newcomer Joseph it's a chance to escape from his office job and learn the ropes on board the 100-year-old Kapitan Borchardt. The team at Southampton Harbour Patrol have their hands full keeping yachts and pleasure boaters out of the way of the massive commercial ships - especially when not everyone follows the rules. Southampton is one of Europe's most productive ports, handling 38 million tonnes of freight every year. A team of brothers working on the dockside need all their skill and experience to quickly unload the Marco Polo, one of the largest container ships in the world - especially as she's carrying some unusual cargo. While on patrol the HMS Severn crew board and inspect fishing vessels. They're one of the three ships in the navy's fisheries protection squadron who help to enforce rules designed to prevent overfishing in the channel and protect the UK's £880 million fishing industry.

E08
Over the centuries the 29,000 square miles of the English Channel have provided an abundance of fish such as cod, haddock and skate. But in recent decades their numbers have plummeted - in part due to industrial-scale fishing methods. A band of eco-fishermen from Weymouth are hoping to help preserve the channel's fish stocks by using the more traditional fishing method of a rod and line to catch sea bass. But it's a volatile and unpredictable way to earn a living, and they can come home with nothing. The team from the UK's Border Agency working in Southampton also uses a hands-on approach to intercept contraband and illegal cargo coming into the port, with sniffer dogs playing an important role alongside more hi-tech detection methods. But with £524 billion worth of goods coming through UK ports each year in millions of containers, it can be like looking for a needle in a haystack. And it's a busy day too for the crew of the Whitonia tanker, whose job it is to refuel the massive cruise liners and cargo ships that come in and out of the port every day.

E09
Since the reign of Henry VIII, the Corporation of Trinity House has provided lighthouses and buoys in the UK's waters and along its coast to warn ships of potential hazards and prevent them running aground. But maintaining them can be a hazardous task in itself - as the crew of their flagship, the Galatea, discovers when they try to tow in a damaged light vessel at the tail end of Hurricane Bertha. A team of rowers take on a different challenge when they attempt to row 20 miles to the middle of the channel and back for charity. And it takes precision driving skills to load and unload the 650,000 vehicles that transit through Southampton Port each year.

E10
Swimming the English Channel from England to France is one of the toughest mental and physical challenges there is - more people have climbed Everest than have succeeded in swimming across it. But a team of four ex-military veterans are hoping to conquer its waters and create a new world record in the process. Each of them has lost a leg. If they succeed, they will be the first all-amputee team to complete the challenge. For the crew on board one of the UK Border Force's cutter boats, the challenge is to police the channel's waters keeping a sharp eye out for signs of smuggling and trafficking. When they spot a yacht acting erratically, they decide to get on board to have a closer look. And it's just another day in the office for the technicians who maintain the vast offshore windfarms that help to generate green power for the UK.
