The Divorcee is a 1930 American Pre-Code drama film written by Nick Grindé, John Meehan and Zelda Sears, based on the novel Ex-Wife by Ursula Parrott.
It was directed by Robert Z. Leonard, who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director.
The film was also nominated for Best Picture and won Best Actress for its star Norma Shearer.
Norma Shearer won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Also starring in the film are Robert Montgomery, Conrad Nagel, and Florence Eldridge.

MGM production head Irving Thalberg bought the rights to Ex-Wife in the summer of 1929. Thalberg's original choice for the role of Jerry was Joan Crawford.

Norma Shearer, Thalberg's wife, was originally never in the running for the lead role in The Divorcee because it was believed that she didn't have enough sex appeal; it was only after Shearer arranged a special photo session with studio portrait photographer George Hurrell and Thalberg saw the result, that he relented and gave her the role.

Ted and Jerry have been married three years when she discovers he had a brief affair with another woman — and when she confronts him on their third anniversary, he tells her it didn't "mean a thing". Lonely and upset, and with Ted out on a business trip, Jerry has an affair with his best friend, Don. She shares the truth with Ted upon his return, withholding Don's name, and they argue ending with Ted leaving her and the couple filing for a divorce. While Jerry turns to partying to drown her sorrows, Ted becomes an alcoholic. Paul and Jerry run into each other and she discovers he still loves her and is willing to leave Dorothy to be with her. It is only after she meets Dorothy that Jerry is forced to evaluate her decision.

Forbidden Holywood Collection Vol. 2 - Disk 1 - Xvid 1cd - A Free Soul (1931) [DDR]

A Free Soul is a 1931 Pre-Code film which tells the story of an alcoholic defense attorney who must defend his daughter's ex-boyfriend on a charge of murdering the mobster she had started a relationship with; a mobster whom her father had previously got an acquittal for on a murder charge.

A Free Soul stars Norma Shearer, Leslie Howard, Lionel Barrymore, and Clark Gable (the first screen appearance together of the future Ashley Wilkes and Rhett Butler).

The movie was adapted by Becky Gardiner and John Meehan (dialogue continuity) from the play by Willard Mack, which was based on the novel by Adela Rogers St. Johns. It was directed by Clarence Brown.

A Free Soul became famous for a sequence where Barrymore delivers a monologue that is said to be the main reason he won the Academy Award for Best Actor that year. (Norma Shearer was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role and Clarence Brown for Best Director.) Gable made such an impression in the role of a gangster who pushes Shearer around that he was catapulted from supporting player to leading man, a position he held for the rest of his career.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records (2002), A Free Soul holds the record for the longest take in a commercial film, the final courtroom scene at 14 minutes. Since a reel of camera film lasts only 10 minutes, the take was achieved by using more than one camera.

CAST:-
Norma Shearer as Jan Ashe
Leslie Howard as Dwight Winthrop
Lionel Barrymore as Stephen Ashe
James Gleason as Eddie
Clark Gable as Ace Wilfong
Lucy Beaumont as Grandma Ashe
