Note : Pam Grier is the undisputed queen of blaxploitation, and her collaborations with director Jack Hill are most of the reason. This isn't the first of those films, but it's pretty representative, and it's a fun, sexy, and occasionally pretty violent romp, and shows off both Grier's solid acting chops and amazing looks. Supporting cast is also very good, with Antonio Fargas as Brown's useless brother, Kathryn Loder and Steve Elias as drug and prostitution ring leaders, Tony Giorgio and Fred Lerner as thugs, and Dalton Ford as Brown's boyfriend. There's also exploitation icon Sid Haig in a small role. Soundtrack is, as expected, funky as fuck, the bad guys meet very sticky ends, and there's copious nudity.
Foxy Brown has to rescue her brother Link from a pair of thugs, and it turns out he owes $20,000 to a loan shark, and can't make money since he's not dealing drugs anymore. Brown lets him stay with her, and goes to meet her boyfriend Michael, an ex-undercover narcotics agent, who's just had plastic surgery and got a new identity. When Link finds out the people he owed money to threatened his girlfriend, he rats out Michael to the mob, and Michael is killed. Brown, furious with her brother, goes undercover in the criminals' prostitution network to hunt down the people who killed her boyfriend, but ends up captured, drugged and raped, before she makes a violent escape and takes an even more violent revenge.
This transfer is quite good, not overly sharp or detailed, but with decent contrast, nice detail, and poppy color that shows off the 70s outfits. Original dual mono sounds fine, director's commentary also pretty good.
