(2022) Night Beats - Live at Valentine
Review: A psyched-out garage band from Seattle, Washington, Night Beats play music that reflects the influences of vintage garage rock, dirty blues rock, ’60s pop, and high-attitude roots music. Led by Danny Lee Blackwell, Night Beats’ recordings are built on the twin foundations of his loose but soulful vocal style and the buzzy, psych-tinged attack of his electric guitar. The group’s sound started out rough and swaggering on their self-titled 2011 debut, but they developed a tighter and more disciplined approach on 2016’s Who Sold My Generation. After exploring their pop leanings on 2019’s Myth of a Man, 2021’s Outlaw R&B took them back to a more primal sound while showing a greater discipline than their earliest incarnation had. — AllMusic
