PROGRAM #1
Jimi Hendrix - Made in London - BBC Radio Music Documentary
An examination of the nine months that Jimi Hendrix spent in London from September 1966, a time of transformation that turned him from an unknown into a world rock superstar.
Johnnie Walker presents a profile of Jimi Hendrix and his arrival in "swinging" London in 1966, where Jimi began to change the sound of rock guitar forever.
Although born in Seattle, Jimi Hendrix was always most at home in his adopted city of London. Shy and retiring, 23- year-old James Marshall Hendrix arrived at Heathrow in September 1966 as an absolute unknown, and returned to the USA in June 1967 as a cock-sure, homecoming hero ready to don the mantle of America's first black rock superstar.
It was in London that he had been welcomed with open arms by the musical glitterati of the 60's, here he was judged for his talent rather than his race; above all it was in London that he was redesigned, repackaged and presented back to America and the World.
One episode of approximately one hour.
First broadcast in 2005 on BBC Radio 2.

PROGRAM #2
Rock's DNA First broadcast 17 Nov, 2007 on BBC R3 "Between the Ears"
Embedded in the riffs to Purple Haze and Foxy Lady there's a guitar chord that's saturated in the blues, that's jazz-inflected and inclined to funk but, above all, speaks of rock. The Jimi Chord, a conflicted major-minor chord with a flattened seventh, unlocks the window into the soul of rock music and much more besides.
With contributions from famous axemen such as Steve Howe [Yes], Bernie Marsden [Whitesnake], and John Campbell [Are You Experienced?].
