Artist: Johnny Seay Title: Blue Moon Of Kentucky Label: Bear Family Release Date: 2006 Format: MP3 @ 320 K
Cowboy, cropduster, locomotive engineer, trapper, hand engraver of classic American firearms, western artist and scupltor... any of these terms could be used to accurately describe Johnny Seay, but collectively they give a more complete picture of the man who spent the first 30 years of his life as one of country music's best vocalists. Seay left the music business in 1969 without looking back, after years of battles over creative direction of his recording career, but not before compiling a list of country's best hits of the 1960s and a Grammy nomination to boot for his poignant performance of "Day for Decision." Seay spent most of the next 30 years living and working in some of the aforementioned professions, and continues to fly a cropduster to this day over the farms and ranches and under the power-lines around his adopted West Texas home range.
Johnny Cash...Johnny C....Johnny Sea. That was the thinking when a young deep-voiced singer named Johnny Seay was renamed and encouraged to sing like a slightly older deep-voiced singer named Johnny Cash. Johnny Sea recorded quite prolifically for ten years between 1958 and 1969. This disc is focused on his studio recordings for NRC and Philips when producers Bill Lowery and Shelby Singleton encouraged him to record in the Johnny Cash style. In fact, Johnny C. was enough of a fan of Johnny Sea to offer him a song, My Old Faded Rose, and Johnny Sea got into the charts with Johnny C.'s adaptation of Frankie's Man Johnny, as well as a song closely associated with Waylon Jennings and Bob Luman, My Baby Walks All Over Me. These recordings were no mere act of copyism. Johnny Sea put his unique spin on the Johnny Cash style, and all Cash fans will enjoy hearing this unique collection of '50s and '60s recordings.
