t’s not easy for German bands to establish themselves in the international music business. It’s a fact that KADAVAR obviously don’t care about and because of that, they tour across the globe nonchalantly and are welcome guests in the land of unlimited possibilities.
It was with 2012's eponymous debut album that Berlin's KADAVAR cast a spell on all fans of solid riff-driven yet doom-like 70’s hard rock à la BLACK SABBATH/PENTAGRAM. Marrying this with the spacy psychedelic approach of early HAWKWIND and mixing in a their own distinct warm vintage charm the trio saw astoundingly high vinyl sales and support shows for bands such as SLEEP, SAINT VITUS & ELECTRIC WIZARD.
Now, the unexpected success the trio had with ‘Abra KADAVAR’ is set to continue with new album ‘Berlin’. It’s a homage to the hometown of this extravagant and magical band: "When we all moved to Berlin independently we wanted to do something new. We’re all different and we have different origins but we made it to create something together. I think that the sense of life of Berlin has influenced us a lot. So it’s a perfectly fitting album title," the gigantic drummer Tiger logicaly states. The long time, which KADAVAR spend on the road and follow their vocation, naturally leaves marks and unavoidably flows into the new material. Singer and guitarist Lupus continues: "You are sitting in the bus and drive around through the landscape for months, you look out of the window and see how life runs over. There’s no place for princesses. Your individual needs don’t matter. The only thing which matters, is the project itself." Damn Right sounds like a band that's gonna go far. Background
After working for four months in the studio, the band finalized the production process of the new album on 1 June, according to their facebook page. Drummer and producer Christoph "Tiger" Bartelt commented the following:
"About ten years ago, when we - independently of one another - moved to Berlin, we just wanted to break free from home and do something new. I thought it was comfortable, to blend in and just live from day to day. A lot of very long nights and so many completely different people at one place. Where there are opposites you can always ground yourself. We’re all different, come from different places but have managed to create something together we all like. I think the Berlin lifestyle has influenced our band very much and therefore fits perfectly as the album’s title."
The eleventh track of the record 'Into The Night' was chosen by pro skater Riley Hawk in his compilation album Riley Hawk: Northwest Blow Out EP presented by Scion AV.
