Korn (often stylized as KoЯn) is an American nu metal band from Bakersfield, California, formed in 1993. The current band line up includes four members: Jonathan Davis, James "Munky" Shaffer, Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu, and Ray Luzier. Korn was originally formed by three of the members of the now-defunct band L.A.P.D., with the addition of two other people.

The band released their first demo album, Neidermeyer's Mind, in 1993.[1] Their debut album, Korn was released in October 1994, where they featured the same musicians that had performed on Neidermeyer's Mind. The band began recording Life Is Peachy in April 1996, and released it in October 1996. Follow the Leader is recognized as Korn's mainstream breakthrough, peaking at number one on the Billboard 200 in August 1998, along with the following album, Issues, in November 1999.[2] The band released Untouchables in June 2002, and later released Take a Look in the Mirror in November 2003. Their first compilation album, Greatest Hits Vol. 1, was released in October 2004, concluding Korn's contract with Epic and Immortal Records. They eventually signed to Virgin Records, releasing See You on the Other Side in December 2005, and an untitled album in July 2007. Korn's latest albums, Korn III: Remember Who You Are and The Path of Totality, were released via Roadrunner Records in July 2010 and December 2011, respectively.

Korn has sold 19 million albums in the US according to Nielsen SoundScan,[3] and 35 million worldwide. Eleven of the band's official releases have peaked in the top ten of the Billboard 200, eight of which have peaked in the top five.[2] Eight official releases are certified Platinum or Multi-Platinum by the RIAA, and one is certified Gold.[4] Korn have released six video albums and 39 music videos. They currently have 41 singles, 28 of which have charted.[2][5][6] Korn have earned two Grammy Awards out of seven nominations, for "Freak on a Leash" and "Here to Stay".

Korn 1994

Korn (printed as KoЯn) is the self-titled debut album by American nu metal band Korn, released on October 11, 1994, through Immortal/Epic Records. Before recording the album, the band played several gigs in an attempt to promote themselves. They were approached by Immortal/Epic Records after a performance at Huntington Beach, California. The band signed to their label because they didn't want to "sign away all of their creative freedom."[1] The band would record at Indigo Ranch Studios in Malibu, California with producer Ross Robinson, who also produced their 1993 demo Neidermeyer's Mind. The recording took place from May to June 1994. After the recordings, Korn toured with Biohazard and House of Pain.

The album's themes mainly consisted of both drug and child abuse. The controversial album artwork depicts a young girl being approached by a large man who is holding what appears to be a horse shoe. Photography was done by Stephen Stickler, and the design was directed by Jay Papke and Dante Ariola. The first single "Blind" charted at number 15 on the Canadian Alternative 30, the album peaked at number ten in New Zealand, as well as seventy-two on the Billboard 200. The album has sold over 10 million worldwide.
