Facilities Management: Social Distancing and PPE
Course Beginner + Intermediate

Course details
COVID-19 has drastically altered the way we move through familiar spaces. As more people start returning to work and school, facilities management teams must grapple with a number of complicated decisions. In this course, instructor Shaun Bryant prepares you to face those challenges head-on, explaining how to change the way people enter buildings, proper placement and distribution of hygiene stations, directional flow, and the creation of Neutral Zones (NZs). Shaun shows you how to change the layout of workplaces and classrooms to allow for social distancing. He also points out the impact of working from home, seating in public spaces, and other alternative methods of working.

Coronavirus: How things will change
“ - [Instructor] Welcome to this social distancing and PPE course. The whole idea of this course is to talk about how we're going to utilize a bit of facilities management, a bit of AutoCAD, and the general regulations, and legislation around COVID-19, the coronavirus. Now, the whole idea of this course is to give you some guidelines to work to, to think about how you're going to set up your workplace based on the pandemic that has been caused by COVID-19. COVID-19 is a virus. And as you can see there with a microscopic view of it, it looks pretty nasty and it's not good. Trust me, I've had coronavirus and it is not a nice place to be. It's easily transmitted and it can be spread very, very easily by way of human contact, by way of people touching other items that people have touched, and so on. And an R zero value of up to 2 to 2.5 is easily manageable with the coronavirus. That means that for every one person that has coronavirus, 2 to 2.5 people can be infected at any given time. Luckily, here in the UK, our R zero value is below one at the moment which means that it's not being transmitted much at all. It does affect classrooms, offices, and densely populated zones and areas. We've only got to watch the news at the moment to see places like Brazil and India really struggling with COVID-19 at the moment. What this means though is we are seeing a massive paradigm shift in everything around the workplace, the classroom, even your home office. I'm hand sanitizing all the time at home and I'm working from home. So, the whole idea of this course is to give you some guidelines on how to move forward with your facilities management, utilizing perhaps AutoCAD as your CAD software. So, what about the numbers? Well, based on May the 11th, 2021, the numbers are like this on the John Hopkins website. As you can see, there's a lot of global cases recorded there. And more importantly, and quite dramatically, there's a lot of global deaths as well. Now, there's hundreds of millions of confirmed cases around the world. The world map shows that on the John Hopkins website. They're represented by all those red areas on the screen there that you can see in front of you. Global deaths have exceeded 3.3 million people. That's a really, really scary statistic. So, the whole idea of this course is to give you that ability to understand what you can do with your CAD software, with your facilities management, just to give you a few steps and a few ideas on what you can do as we start moving back into work. It has had a world-wide impact. You can see that by looking at all the red areas there on the map. You can see that the most densely populated areas are having the issues, Europe, India, the United States and South America. So, what we've got to think about here is how our healthcare services have been bombarded with all these COVID-19 cases. What we need to think about is how can we set things up so that we're not spreading COVID-19 as easily as we might do if we don't think about it. We've got to think about the economy as well. Lots of people have been working from home. That's great, but the office is the place. It's the hub of productivity. And what we've got to think about that is how that's affecting our economy. So, again, this course will give you some guidelines to get your people back into the classroom, to get your people back into the office. And, also, the workplace and at home are places where you have to work now. I've been working from home for 20 years. So, it was a no brainer for me to work from home. I did miss out on the classroom training that I do but my workplace is my home anyway, but there's a lot of people out there, in different industries, they want to go back to work. They want to get back into the office and start working again. And that's where this course will also help, just to give you some ideas on things you can consider under your current legislation, in the location where you are.
