Description:

Madman (1981), directed by Joe Giannone, Vinegar Syndrome 4k remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including original theatrical stereo, two commentary tracks, and English subtitles.

IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082696/

Video encoded in two-pass 15.0 Mbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image. Audio encoded separately with Apple AAC for the highest-quality AAC sound available. Subtitles converted to VobSub and repositioned.

Note : This fairly formulaic backwoods slasher is mostly notable for featuring Dawn of the Dead's Gaylen Ross as the final girl (and only familiar name in the cast), although it's also interesting that it was originally supposed to be based on the same "Cropsy" urban legend that formed the basis for The Burning, but after the filmmakers found out about that film, they decided to rewrite this. Other than that, it's pretty straightforward, with a group of camp councelors getting picked off by an axe-wielding maniac, but it's decent for a low-budget effort.

A group of camp councelors are telling scary stories around the fire, and the leader tells the story of Madman Marz, a local farmer who killed his whole family and was lynched by a mob, but whose presence still lurks, waiting to be summoned by those foolish enough to speak his name out loud. Richie, one of the others, shouts the name and throws a rock through the window of the old house where Marz supposedly lived. When they return, Richie spots a shadow in the forest and follows it back to the house, which seems empty. As the group goes about their nightly activities, heads start rolling and the bodycount mounts, and in the end, it's up to spunky councelor Betsy to save the kids at the camp and maybe give Madman Marz some payback.

This is a 4k remaster, but it looks to be from an interpositive or similar, so while grain is decently managed, it's pretty soft and hazy, with slightly crushed blacks, but decent color. The stereo track sounds fine, and both the commentary track are alright.

HeVK torrents always have lots of keywords. Try searching for “hevk slasher” for more horny teens tempting fate in the dark woods, “hevk exploitation” for more films appealing to prurient interests rather than art, or “hevk 80s” for more from the decade when the slasher film peaked and declined.
