A Vancouver based murder has just occurred and been discovered. At the beginning of each episode, not only is the victim(s) identified to the viewer, but also the killer(s). The disparate group of Vancouver Homicide detectives, with help from the Coroner's office, have to wade through the evidence which will lead them through the more often than not less than straightforward path to discovering the killer(s) and his/her/their motive. That motive often is not fully understood by the detectives until they catch the killer(s). One of those detectives, quick witted and acerbic tongued Angie Flynn, often has the competing priority of raising her son, Manny, as a single mother. Written by Huggo

Potrebbe essere considerata una serie Crime, ma in Motive il processo è quello opposto: all'inizio di ogni puntata, infatti, conosciamo già l'assassino e la vittima. Nel corso della puntata inizieremo a capire il collegamento che c'è tra i due (e, generalmente, è quello che meno ci si aspetta) e attraverso una serie di flashback inizieremo a conoscere i due, scoprendo qualcosa di più sulla loro vita e sulle caratteristiche psicologiche. Alla fine di ogni puntata scopriremo il "motive", il movente che ha portato all'omicidio. A farlo sono i detective Angie Flinn, una cazzuta mamma single, con un intuito infallibile e la grande capacità di immedesimarsi nelle storie degli altri, e il suo collega Oscar Vega, di cui sappiamo poco, ma che man mano fa venir fuori un pezzo di sé. A completare il tutto ci saranno la dottoressa Betty Rogers, il sexy medico legale, e Lucas, un collega imbranato che si esalta per ogni nuovo indizio e per questo viene facilmente preso in giro dai due. Motive, quindi, ti fa entrare nella mente dei personaggi e ti porta a cercare di immaginare quale possa essere il motivo... ma, puntualmente, si rimane col dubbio fino alla fine.

A cat-and-mouse series with a twist on the everyday whodunit, "Motive" centers on Angie Flynn (Kristin Lehman, "The Killing"), a detective on a backwards chase for clues to a killer that has already been revealed to viewers. The series, filmed in Vancouver, is an unconventional way to watch a crime unfold. Each episode begins by revealing to the audience, not only the victim, but the killer as well. The homicide detective then begins to piece together clues. How did they do it? How are the victim and killer connected? What's the motive? As the mystery unfolds, the audience navigates the twisted and complicated maze of each murder and solves the puzzle alongside Det. Flynn and her team. Three years after a killer gets away, the team reunites to close the case. A woman is murdered with what appears to be a medieval weapon. A woman is found nail-gunned to death; Angie embraces her relationship with Jack; Vega's frustrations force him to look for other options. The team goes on a hunt through the past to find the killer of a video game designer. Flynn and Vega butt heads over their approach to solving a case involving a high-school student's death. Meanwhile, things get personal between Lucas and Sung.
