Note : If you're unfamiliar with the concept of jiangshi, Chinese hopping vampire-zombies, this film is as good an introduction as anything. A mix of horror with slapstick comedy and martial arts, as well as effects makeup of varying quality, this breakneck romp introduces fictionalized versions of concepts from Chinese folklore and superstition in rapid succession, and then kicks most of them in the face. If you think The Three Stooges didn't meet enough hopping reanimated corpses, this is probably for you.
Master Kau, a priest specializing in controlling vampires and other restless spirits, accepts an assignment to rebury the father of a wealthy businessman, Yam, to bring good luck to the family. However, the corpse is intact, a sign of vampirism, so Kau brings it to his house, helped by his bungling apprentices Man-choi and Chau-sang. Due to a fuckup by said apprentices, the vampire breaks out and makes a beeline for its son's house, killing him. Kau is arrested by a cowardly police inspector who is smitten with the vampire's granddaughter, but when her father rises as a vampire as well, the Scooby gang must join forces to defeat the elder vampire once and for all.
This remaster looks fine, it's not fantastically sharp or clean, but color and contrast is decent. All soundtracks are ok, note that the two English dubs are two completely different dubs, apart from the channel configuration. The commentary by Frank Djeng is quite informative, as is the one by Bey Logan, I guess, although that guy's a fucking creep.
