[b][size=12pt]Platoon is a 1986 film, directed by Oliver Stone which deals with his stay in Vietnam as a volunteer during the war and is inspired by the real experiences lived by the director in 1967-1968.

The film won 4 Academy Awards out of 8 nominations and Oliver Stone was also awarded the Silver Bear in Berlin for Best Director. In 1998 the American Film Institute added him to the 83rd place in the ranking of the best hundred US films of all time, [1] while ten years later, in the updated list, it fell to eighty-sixth place


Chris, a young American, volunteer for the Vietnam war, not finding it right that it always touches economically disadvantaged men and black minorities to risk their lives for their country. Once in a platoon, picturesque for variety of composition, dehumanized by the brutal experience of the jungle war, in a short time Chris is ruthlessly initiated to the needs of that violent life, not excluding the use of drugs to defend himself from nostalgia. During a reconnaissance in the jungle, the inhuman sergeant Barnes, who commands the platoon, discovers an inhabited village and decides its massacre and destruction. The massacre is violently executed by Sergeant Elias, who attacks Barnes and assures him of a relationship with his superiors on the atrocities he committed. Shocked by the horrors of the massacre he witnessed, Chris is on the march with the platoon to take action against a Viet Cong bunker, in torrential rain. Due to the mistake of an American lieutenant who gives wrong coordinates, the platoon is partially destroyed. While Chris rescues the wounded, Barnes encounters Elias isolated in the jungle and strikes him for revenge. From the top of the rescue helicopter, Chris and the survivors see horrified Elias wounded, fleeing in front of the Vietcong, who subsequently kill him. In the last war action of his volunteer stop, escaping a deadly ambush by the Viet Cong who completely annihilated the platoon, Chris, encountering the ruthless Barnes, who wounded tries to save himself, kills him with lucid determination.
