Note : Flashing forward to something very new you might have missed, what would happen if you mixed a "criminals vs. cops fight to the death in an enclosed location" film like Con Air or The Raid with a slasher-like monster movie about a lethal, out of control, unstoppable supersoldier, added some overly complicated conspiracy backstory, and then cranked the gore up to 11 or maybe 12, along the lines of Riki-Oh or The Sadness? Well, you'd get this Korean madness, a film that tries to do way too many things to pull all of them off, but which knows where its strengths lie, which is, in hundreds of gallons of blood, copious stabbings, disembowelments, and torn out throats. If you like stylish, amped-up action and gore, this is definitely for you.
After an attempt to extradite criminals from The Philippines to South Korea by air goes disastrously wrong, the two governments attempt a new plan: lots of dangerous criminals on a cargo ship. This of course goes totally wrong almost immediately, with the criminals breaking free, stabbing a lot of people, and taking over the ship. But! There's something they haven't counted on, which is the presence on board of a dangerous super-soldier held in a coma, who just happens to wake up because of the presence of so much blood (seriously). He jumps in the fray, and stabs a lot of people (also crushes a lot of heads), making the remaining survivors run in panic to try to stay alive. But! There's something they haven't counted on, which is an extremely complicated conspiracy backstory about clandestine genetic experiments going back to WWII, and the arrival of a heavily armed pharmaceutical industry hit squad, also made up of super soldiers (maybe not quite as super). More killing ensues. And so on.
This BluRay looks pretty perfect, crisp and clear image showing off the very stylish, high-saturation cinematography. 5.1 tracks are also punchy and good. I would have loved a commentary track, but maybe in some later release.
