Description:

Quicksilver Messenger Service was one of San Francisco's original psychedelic bands of the late 1960s that was popular among the hippie culture. Essentially a jam band, their early albums and live shows contributed to some of the best instrumental jams of the period. Quicksilver was an integral force in the creation of the Acid Rock genre, which is characterized by long instrumental solos, few (if any) lyrics and musical improvisation.

Author Tom Wolfe was first to describe the LSD-influenced music of The Doors, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, Iron Butterfly, Big Brother & The Holding Company, Cream, Jefferson Airplane, Ultimate Spinach, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Blue Cheer, Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Great Society, Stone Garden and the Grateful Dead as "acid rock" in his book about Ken Kesey and the Acid Tests, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.

This was Quicksilver Messenger Service's first album, although they had already produced two songs for the soundtrack of the 1968 movie Revolution. 1970 - Just For Love
Just for Love is the fourth album by American psychedelic rock band Quicksilver Messenger Service. Released in August 1970, it marks the culmination of a transition from the extended, blues- and jazz-inspired improvisations of their first two albums to a more traditional rock sound. Founding member Dino Valenti, who returned to the band after a stint in prison on drug charges, was largely responsible for the new sound. Valenti's influence is readily apparent throughout; he composed eight of the album's nine tracks under the pen name Jesse Oris Farrow. Despite the marked change in the band's sound, it was their third straight album to reach the Top 30 on the Billboard charts, peaking at #27. The only single culled from the album, "Fresh Air," became the band's biggest hit, reaching #49.
