The Story So Far (The Very Best Of) - Rod Stewart [2001] [only1joe] FLAC-EAC
Wikipedia - The Story So Far: The Very Best of Rod Stewart
is a 2001 Rod Stewart career-retrospective compilation album, which summarizes his solo work beginning with material from his 1971 breakthrough album Every Picture Tells a Story until his 2000 album Human. For contractual reasons, only two songs from his Mercury Records tenure ("Maggie May" and "You Wear It Well") were included. The rest of the material is from different albums released under Warner Bros. Records. The compilation was particularly notable for divide the songs between rock and pop tunes on the first disc (A Night Out) and love songs on the second disc (A Night In). Also, even though most of the songs included on the album enjoyed big success (29 out of the 34 songs originally reached the Top 10 in the United Kingdom and/or the United States), many hit singles were missed-out, including US Top 10 hits as "Passion", "Infatuation", and "My Heart Can't Tell You No". A particular inclusion on the album was the track "In a Broken Dream", recorded by Stewart as a guest with Python Lee Jackson back in 1969. The track wasn't a hit until 1972, when Stewart was already a superstar, and then the single reached #3 in the UK. The song remained unreleased on a Rod Stewart until its inclusion on this set.
Amazon.co.uk Review By David Trueman - A legend of British rock over the past three decades, everyone's favourite pseudo Scotsman, Rod Stewart has had more than enough top-drawer hits to fill this double album, The Story So Far. There is no chronological order, which is probably a good thing as his golden period in the 1970s would undoubtedly cast a shadow over his subsequent work, which although good is no match for "Maggie May", "You Wear it Well" or the swaggering blues rocker "Hot Legs". The album is split into two distinct sections, "A Night Out" which as you may guess is the up-tempo numbers like "This Old Heart" and "Ooh La La" whereas "A Night In" shows the more tender side of balladeer Rod beginning with the "love it or hate it" anthem "Sailing" and then onto classics like "I Don't Want To Talk About It", "The Killing of Georgie" and "Have I Told You Lately". Rod Stewart has been the subject of many compilations before The Story So Far but with many of them being either single discs with glaring omissions or box sets with just a few too many album fillers, this is the most definitive yet succinct greatest hits yet.
