Note : Umberto Lenzi might be most known for his cannibal films, but he was a director who worked within the trends of Italian genre cinema, and in the late 60s and early 70s, that meant gialli and poliziotteschi, and this film, while mostly a giallo, also has a bit of the latter. There's also some of the requisite elements of early 70s gialli, such as lots of tits, groovy hippie parties (with tits), and a murderer pretty much exactly dressed up like the one from Blood and Black Lace. The story is a bit too convoluted, honestly, but the cinematography is very nice, and it keeps going at a good clip, with possibly cinema's first power drill murder for good measure.
A serial killer is murdering women who initially seem unconnected, but when one potential victim, Giulia, survives, although she can't remember the killer's face, she provides a possible clue: One of the other victims worked at the same hotel where she worked years earlier. As the police focus on the wrong man, and then start to suspect Giulia's husband Mario, the couple decide to take matters into their own hands and begin an amateur investigation, but the killer is trying to cover his tracks, and it's a race against time.
This is a fine remaster, not the sharpest, slightly fuzzy, but not overly grainy, and color and contrast are decent. Stereo tracks sound good (as usual, watch it in the original Italian with subtitles), and the commentary track is very good, as is common when Troy Howarth and Nathaniel Thompson are involved.
