Il cinema italiano di fantascienza è, con alcune eccezioni, un filone cinematografico di intrattenimento popolare, caratterizzato da pellicole nate sulla scia di film statunitensi di successo ma con un budget notevolmente ridotto. Alcuni di questi film realizzati in Italia, pur essendo considerati dei film di serie B, sono stati apprezzati anche all'estero, grazie all'inventiva e all'ingegnosità di registi ed esperti di effetti speciali come Antonio Margheriti (Anthony M. Dawson) e Mario Bava, che si distinsero rispettivamente nei filoni dell'avventura spaziale e del fanta-horror.

Il 14 giugno 1964, dopo un terremoto, i giornali danno notizia di un avvistamento UFO da parte di un contadino nella zona di Morino. Il professor Solmi, insieme alla figlia Luisa e all'assistente Baldi, vengono convocati per studiare l'origine di una strana macchia che sembra corrodere il terreno.



A spaceship from Hydra crashes on Sardinia. Aliens take a scientist, his daughter, technicians and spies hostage to fix their ship. After repairs, aliens abduct the humans but they rebel, sending the ship into deep space.
