Sydney, an elderly gambler, as he is about to enter a diner finds John sitting on the ground and invites him to drink something. John needs $ 6,000 for his mother's funeral, Sydney offers him a ride in Las Vegas, when he arrives in a casino Sydney teaches him some trick to raise some money.

Two years later we are in Reno and we find John who is now a professional player. Clementine is a casino waitress who occasionally turns to prostitution, one evening she goes to the Sydney room but he is not interested in having sexual intercourse. The next morning he meets John with whom there seems to be good feeling. One night John calls Sydney because he needs help, when he arrives in the motel room where he is with Clementine he discovers that the two hold a man hostage who had refused to pay Clementine the agreed amount for a performance, the woman he had called John, who after attacking him and handcuffed to the bed called his wife asking her to bring the money. In this story is also involved Jimmy, a friend of John who takes care of the internal security of the casino, which lends him a gun. After a discussion it turns out that John and Clementine got married that afternoon, Sydney convinces them that they have to run away, after making sure that the two have not been seen by anyone, as well as from the hostage, erases the fingerprints and makes the gun disappear .

While John and Clementine are heading to Niagara Falls for their honeymoon, Jimmy asks Sydney to meet to talk and tell him that the man taken hostage did not go to the police, then Jimmy makes it clear that he is a knowledge of some facts of Sydney's criminal past when he lived in Atlantic City: Sydney shot John's father and killed him. Jimmy blackmails the old man who gives him his savings. But Sydney has a revenge in store, in fact one night will wait for Jimmy in his house and kill him.
