La storia Mesopotamica fittizia narrata nel film si basa ampiamente sulla teoria detta Panbabilonismo, nella quale storie sumere e giudaiche descrivono i medesimi eventi. The fictional Mesopotamian history depicted in the film is largely based on the theory of Pan-Babylonism, in which Sumerian and Jewish stories describe the same events. Dr. Bentley states that the Great Flood is a historically and archaeologically proven fact, and the Sumerian landing on the mountaintop is a reference to the biblical story of Noah's Ark.
