L'Esorcista del Papa, film diretto da Julius Avery, racconta la storia di Padre Gabriele Amorth, interpretato da Russell Crowe, un sacerdote realmente esistito divenuto capo esorcista in Vaticano e che nel corso della sua vita ha eseguito oltre 100.000 esorcismi.
Dopo che la madre single Julia (Alex Essoe) ha iniziato la ristrutturazione di un'abbazia, qualcosa di terrificante accade alla sua famiglia: suo figlio Henry (Peter DeSouza-Feighoney) durante la notte viene posseduto da un demonio. L'esorcista dovrà occuparsi della possessione del giovane, ma indagando finirà con lo scoprire una cospirazione che dura da secoli e che il Vaticano ha sempre cercato di occultare.
