Note : A lesser known Lucio Fulci giallo here, which is a shame, because I think this might be one of his best, at least in terms of story. It's a twisty, meticulously set up slow burn whose final twist you may or may not see coming (beware that the US poster gleefully spoils it), with strong performances and a creepy, weird mood. It also features a number of references or repurposing of things Fulci had done in his earlier films, such as the "falling off a cliff and hitting all the outcroppings on the way down" from Don't Torture a Duckling (Marc Porel, who played the priest in that, also has an important supporting role in this), and some of the themes from A Lizard in a Woman's Skin, and we get to see Jennifer O'Neill from Scanners in an early lead role. Definitely a very good, if slow, giallo.
Virginia, an Englishwoman living in Italy, has had psychic visions since childhood, and after dropping off her businessman husband at the airport, she has a confused one where she seemingly witnesses an elderly woman being murdered and immured in a wall. Later, visiting her husband's farmhouse which she wants to restore, she recognizes the room from her vision, and hacks open a wall, revealing a skeleton. When the corpse turns out to be that of her husband's ex lover from before they met, her husband is jailed as a suspect, while she goes on a quest to discover the truth, and also why she saw an older woman murdered, while the victim in the wall was in her twenties...
This isn't the best remaster, but it has quite good color, contrast, and grain, so the occasional dirt and instability isn't such a big nuisance. Italian stereo track sounds good, the English dub is also fine, commentary track with Troy Howarth as usual well worth listening to.
