Before the Iranian Revolution, the city of Shiraz was at the heart of a thriving wine-making industry. The name Shiraz is now associated with some of the world's most famous wines. But what connection if any is there between the Shiraz we drink today and Iran? BBC journalist and wine expert Anahita Shams goes on a fascinating journey of discovery, from the Neolithic wine makers of Georgia to the courts of the Persian Shahs. She follows a Persian legend to France, an old vine's tale to Hungary, studies old documents to understand the Australian Shiraz connection and uncovers a delightful homage to Iranian winemaking in California's Napa Valley.
