IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096256/
Video encoded in two-pass 13.0 Mbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image. Audio encoded separately with Apple AAC for the highest-quality AAC sound available. English SDH subtitles OCRed, proofed and corrected, image subtitles converted to VobSub and repositioned.
Note : Another do-over of an early and very popular encode of mine, this also adds the original stereo track and a Jaboody Dubs riff commentary. This film hardly needs an introduction. John Carpenter's scathing sci-fi critique of Reagan-era America, starring Roddy Piper, Keith David and Meg Foster, ultracapitalist interdimensional aliens, and the longest fight in film history over whether or not someone should start eating that trash can. Just download it. OBEY.
Drifter Nada arrives in Los Angeles looking for work, and finds it at a construction site. His coworker Frank invites him to live in a shantytown nearby, where he meets more people from the community. There are several hints at a strange conspiracy, including someone breaking into a TV transmission to claim that "they" are controlling humanity, and that the only way to break free is to cut off a transmission at the source. A violent police raid destroys the shanty town and a nearby church, Nada grabs one of a number of boxes he'd seen in the church earlier, and finds it contains sunglasses. When he puts on a pair, the world appears monochrome, but he can also see a number of strange mind-control messages on billboards and in the media, and more importantly, that part of the seemingly human population are actually strange humanoid aliens. As he gets further involved in unraveling the conspiracy, recruiting some help along the way, he realizes violent revolution is the only way to stop the ruling class, and produces some one-liners for the Duke Nukem franchise in the process.
This 4k remaster looks great, excellent color and contrast, subtle, tight grain, and clean as a whistle, with great detail. The 5.1 remaster also sounds good, the original stereo is there if you prefer it, the commentary track is pretty entertaining, and the Jaboody track is hilarious.
