Note : Here's something kind of rare, a lower-budget sequel with only a couple of actors returning from the original film that still holds up very well, with a decent story, some fun setpieces, and solid practical effects work (and a couple of shots of slightly dodgy CGI). Yeah, it's not quite as good, but still well worth watching, and Fred Ward is always a delight. The rest of the cast includes Helen Shaver, Chris Gartin, and Michael Gross.
Earl Basset's spent all his money and fame after the events of the first film, and is now running a not particularly successful ostritch farm, when he's approached by oil baron Ortega, whose oil fields in Mexico are troubled by graboids. After hearing the job is very well paid, Earl sets off, and meets a motley crew of scientists and oil workers. Their initial strategy to kill the graboids works well enough, but there are too many of them, and Earl's forced to call in his old buddy Burt Gummer and his arsenal of weapons, which turns out to be sorely needed, because the graboids are evolving, and soon there are new threats to content with.
Another great looking Arrow 4k remaster here, excellent color and contrast, nice detail, and fine, subtle grain that feels filmic without being overly prominent. Both the 4.0 and stereo tracks sound good, both commentary tracks are interesting, and the Jaboody track delivers, as usual.
