Ultimate Chicken Horse is the first game of the independent Clever Endeavour Games studio. Its core consists of three people - Richard Atlas, head of the company and designer, chief programmer Alex Attar and Kyler Kelly - artist. A small team financed the production during the Kickstarter collection in May 2015.
Mechanics
This is a party game released on a PC platform, PS4 etc. and intended mainly for multiplayer games. Ultimate Chicken Horse is a two-dimensional platformer in which up to four people play at once (locally and over the Internet).
The goal is one - to beat the remaining players by reaching the finish line in one piece. Developers, however, have made available practically empty boards, which contain only the basic facilities - start, finish and few platforms. You don't get any points for completing such levels, so for the fun to make sense, we have to add the rest of the objects by ourselves. One game consists of several consecutive approaches to the same route, during which we add further elements to this obstacle course. Before the start, each player successively sets up platforms, hills, collapses, saws and other traps. This should be done in such a way as to pave the way to the target and, at the same time, make it more difficult for opponents to cross. This results in crazy and dangerous levels. Managing the characters (horse, chicken, sheep and a few others) is relatively simple, because they can only jump and bounce off the walls. Individual heroes do not have any unique powers.
In order to earn points for completing a level, a basic condition must be met - at least one of the players must die during the race. Otherwise nobody gets any prizes. However, if someone goes wrong, the game charges bonuses for getting to the finish line in the first place, for placing a trap, collecting coins, and so on.
Technical issues
Ultimate Chicken Horse for PC, PS4, etc. has a simple but fun style. Players play animals that look funny and move in an unnatural way. The whole party image is complemented by a lively and game-powered soundtrack.
