Intenso thriller psicologico che celebra la dialettica ordinario/straordinario
Martin Harris è un celebre botanico americano sposato alla bella e biondissima Liz. Atterrato all'aeroporto di Berlino con gentile consorte, il dottor Harris raggiunge in taxi l'hotel Adlon, dove si terrà un prestigioso convegno di biotecnologia. Accortosi molto presto di non avere con sé la propria ventiquattrore, Martin prende un secondo taxi diretto all'aeroporto per recuperare il bagaglio. Terminata sventuratamente la sua corsa nel fiume e salvato dalla giovane donna alla guida del mezzo, l'uomo viene ricoverato incosciente. Solo e senza documenti si risveglia dal coma dopo quattro giorni, ricordando soltanto di essere Martin Harris e di avere una moglie che lo attende in albergo. Dimesso nonostante l'evidente stato di confusione e il parere contrario del medico, Martin torna da dove era partito, scoprendo con orrore che la sua compagna ignora chi lui sia e che lo sconosciuto al suo fianco dichiara di essere addirittura il dottor Martin Harris. Allontanato a forza dalla sicurezza, Martin dovrà liquidare l'impostore recuperando documenti, memoria e identità.
